Money paid into wrong account

Hi All.
I am after some advise for my mum.
She had an old account with the HSBC. This has defaulted at least a year ago and she has been paying it off ever since. the outstanding balance is about £800 down from £1400
Last week she went to transfer some money from her credit union account into her current account. despite her bank account being the one that she pays £20 a month into the account as well as the one that she specified in her email communications when withdrawing the funds they have paid it into the defaulted HSBC account.
This was only discovered when the DCA wrote to her thanking her for the £500 and is the paying the rest off shortly.
She knows that the HSBC account needs paying but is there anyway of getting that money back as it was for urgent expenditure and the company sent it too the wrong account altogether?
Sorry if this appears rambly

Hey Jimmy_Roo,
I'm sure someone will come along with a bit more experience and advice than me but could it be that your mums bank may be setting off.
I have copied the definition of this:
What's it called when someone takes cash from your bank account without permission? Most would say it's stealing, banks call it setting off. This is a hidden danger for anyone with credit cards, loans or mortgages where they bank or save. Banks can and do use the money to repay the debt at any time, without even notifying you; which can cause financial hell.
Not absolutely sure this is what's happened but it certainly sounds like it.

No its definitly not a RTSO payment.
I should have been clearer. my Mum emailed the withdrawel request through using her correct bank details and the one that a SO is set up to pay them with. The credit union then went and paid the money into her old account that is now defaulted,0 -
Hi Jimmy-roo. The same thing happened to me not long after starting my DMP. Despite having told my employer my new bank details they paid my expenses into my old bak account which consisted of overdraft within my DMP. The difference however was that I work for a big company so I was happy to my finger at them and say 'sort it out, it's your mistake'. Thus they paid me my expenses again into my new account. At least Santander did well out of the mess:eek:
I suspect however that your Mum may not want to take such a harsh line with the credit union? Maybe she could try asking the DCA if they will release the money due to the situation - they might release it, stranger things have happend:eek:LBM August 2011.
