Hi, I called up today and got my code so am all set for online booking.

I was hoping someone might be able to tell me what the online booking site is like. Does it allow you to input a selection of dates and parks and then genetates a break or do you choose the exact date and park? Also, is it a mad rush to enter and checkout in crazy Boots sale fashion?

If anyone could give me the lowdown on what to expect I would be so grateful!

    Thanks

You put in 4 dates (it might be 5, my memory is going) and the same number of sites. You then click on search for break and it will, hopefully, come up with a holiday for you. You can reject this and search again changing dates and/or sites and keep on doing this until you get something you like or go ahead and book.

Something you can try, I don't know if it works, but it's worth a go, is to shift your dates and sites around. I can't work out how the things are selected - whether it picks your 1st selection date or site first.

Not necessarily a mad rush, no, but if you want the 'good' days/sites then maybe get in early.

Good luck, hope you get what you want.

Beware of Haven and Park Resorts as you WILL need to buy passes.

I have been privately to both in the past and was issued with passes and needed to show them to get into the amusements and swimming pools.

You're right Millerose, you do need to buy the passes to be able to use the facilities but you can still reject them if you don't want them. They aren't obligatory. The only thing that you must pay for is the fuel/cleaning charge.

does anybody know for definate if you need the passes for Butlins or not?? :)

My friend went to Butlins last yr in August paying direct. She wasnt given any passes just a chalet key(s). She showed nothing at the swimming pool or entertainment complex.

However I dont know if they issue passes for all guests during Sun weeks.......I'm guessing they dont as its too much hassle.

My question is how would Butlins staff know you are a Sun holidayer?

Once onsite anyway you will be paying money to Butlins in some form of evening drinks at the bar, crisps, snacks, light up toys for the kids, takeaway food, photos or gifts. The only thing you get free with the passes is swimming, the singers/entertainment in evening and a few funrides and the kids clubs.

To me I think they dont bother with the passes anymore as they know that youll spend more than £12 per person per week anyway

Yes you are indeed correct. When the park youve chosen send you an invoice with the fuel/cleaning charge and booking confirmation they will also add the following:

    * Entertainment passes per person booked
    * Bed Linen

    * Possible Upgrade if you wish to add (caravan/chalet)
    * possible extended stay if you wish to add

You can decline or accept whatever you want.

We kept the passes as this particular site is really strict with them and the kids wanted to use the swimming complex.

We declined the bed linen and took the kids sleeping bags and just sheets and a duvet for us.

We didnt upgrade as a 2 bed caravan was more than enough for us. However if there are 6 of you, they may offer an upgrade to a 3 bed caravan. They did that to us one year when we were 6 and saved us messing with the living room sofa! 2 years ago it was just £10 to upgrade to a 3 bed caravan! bargain.

I should add that my dad did the Sun holiday and booked for all the family and not me. This year Im doing it on my own ;D so technically Im a newbie again.

What happened last time, the code breakers broke the code when the site early on the afternoon of the day before, I booked about 4:30pm, I think they "broke" the code - posted on this site about 1/2 an hour previously. It was a breeze, got first choice on date and site, and no problems with site overload. Later that evening it went manic, and the "official" day was also manic with the site crashing, by all acounts
  • Yes it was really good to be able to log on the night before and get our first choice of park and date.

Hope they do the same this time and post here once cracked!
  • I'm going mad here! Can anyone point me in the direction of a list of the dates please!

    Thanks!!

Well I have a priority ref but only have 1 date (20th August) I can do and realy only looking at 1 park (caister- haven) as that falls in the week our in laws are going and hubby would like to have a holiday with them too.

What are chances of me getting the park and date I want? If I put this date and park as top preference (i'm aware I have to put a minimum of 3 dates and parks) if the date and park is available will it come up as first choice as thats my first choice or will it just keep giving me random ones within my selection until I get the right match?

I'm hoping the fact that Caister prob isnt the most popular of all the parks that I may stand a chance! Fingers crossed

teabag if you get in quick you stand a reasonable chance two years ago we had a similar situation only had two dates available and only wanted one park, went online as early as poss once got last code and we got our preferred date and park, but it is the luck of the draw i guess!
