Hubby being made bankrupt by HMRC

Hi, my hubby has just received a letter from HMRC saying that they are going to make him bankrupt for unpaid income tax. We have been waiting for someone to do this as he cannot afford the fees himself. I have been out of work but am now working in a temp role until October this year. I started the job in September last year. Can someone please let me know if my wages will need to be included in the payment schedule, and if the official receiver will need to see my bank statements? I have my own bank account and wondered if the OR needs to go through my income and expenditure as well as my hubby's? Can you also let me know how long approximately the process takes? The letter gives him 7 days to pay, and then they send a demand for payment which gives 21 days to pay, and then they file a bankruptcy petition in the high court in London. We have no assets and rent a house. Any help or guidance will be gratefully received.

My understanding is you are not legally obliged to declare your income to the official receiver.

But in terms of setting your husband's post-bankruptcy budget, it's probably simpler if you answer any questions about your income because some of the expenses will be joint.

You have nothing to hide or fear by being open with your husband's official receiver.

Make sure he/she knows your job finishes in October.

hi i was made bankrupt by the HMRC and wasnt working, my wife was in a full time job.

as far as your concerned it has nothing to do with the OR. All he has to say is he is living under you and has no income.

Simple as that and please do not worry it was gravy real easy I would do it again if i had to so dont panic
