I have just got back into work after about two months. The wage is £5.35- minimum wage. I have no savings whatsoever, my loan is 4 months in arrears and as my wage is monthly, I am a bit worried as to how I am going to get through the month. Also, I smoke, which is damaging my very small wallet further. I have tried to quit countless times, to no avail. Feeling quite down tonight and could do with some advice on how to get through the month financially... any advice much appreciated.

Congratulations of posting. The first month of a new job is always the hardest. Payday seems a long way off. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to give you some useful advice. Is there anything you could sell?
With regards to your smoking - it's doing more damage to your body than your wallet. Get down to your GP and see if they can give you something to help you quit.0 -
Hi there. I'm really sorry you are feeling down. But you're in good company.

There will be other advice to follow, stuff about contacting your creditors (others know the rules much more than I do on that score) after all you can't give them what you haven't got.
The lines of communication must remain open to your creditors, you must talk to people who can help you with this i.e. CAB or CCCS I assume.
But number one....you really have no choice but to stop smoking right now.
If you buy cigarettes, that is £4 - £5 you could spend on food. It's not really going to make much of a dent in your debts I'm sure but it will buy you FOOD and help to heat your home...you will also feel as if you have clawed back some control in your life. And every penny counts in situations like this.
Those things are just another form of controlling you.
Can you make it a point to borrow Alan Carr's quitting smoking book from the library? It won't then cost you a penny and it could save your wallet...and your health.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.
Sainsburys Loan: Cleared July 2010
Credit cards: AMEX Airmiles Card: direct debit set to clear balance monthly

never look back only forwards... lots of us can put 'what ifs' in lots of situations... dont do it it will just make you more depressed. With regards to smoking get yourself down the doctors you can now get free help and this includes patches on prescription which is nearly 1/2 the price they retail at. It looks like you will never be able to do it but you can with some support

An SOA Statement of Affairs
a. list of income and a total
b. a detailed list of spending (include mortgage and secured debt but exclude unsecured debt)
c. a total of spending as above
d. now you can see how much you have to pay debt monthly by forming income minus spending
e. a list of unsecured debts
i.e. debt amount, minimum monthly debt repayment, APR for CCs
and amount outstanding, monthly payment and number left to pay for loans
f. a total of unsecured debt and of monthly unsecured debt repayment
also say if you rent or buying , if so how much is the house worth and how much the mortgage, also your general situation: partner, children, working etc.
