Best place to look for jobs?

Hi,

After some help / pointers I'm currently employed but need to look for a new job as company not doing well and don't know if we are going to be paid one month to the next. I've been in this role for 3 years.

Never really had to apply for jobs before as through people I know etc and I'm at a loss where to start and bit overwhelmed by it all.

Are there any particular good websites to look at etc I'd be grateful for any advice. Sector would be HR / Financial / Office sector in South Wales.

I've actually got an up to date CV :).

Thanks in advance for your help.

EH xx

Try agency web sites, company websites, directgov.co.uk, cv library.co.uk

Also consider Hays Accounting for accountancy/finance jobs

Randstad too for all kinds of jobs - this agency works on your behalf to secure you a job.

Hope this helps and good luck with your search.

This site pulls together lots of ads from agencies, newspapers, websites etc.

Avoid Total Jobs. From experience, it seems that most of the roles on this site are very old and long gone (even though it says 'added today'!!!)

As well as all the usual websites, I find that a simple Google search is most effective. I have set keywords and use a variation of job titles and the city I'm looking in, then I narrow the search down by using the Google search tools and I narrow the time to "past 24 hours" - and keep on top of it. There's not an abundance of suitable jobs in my city so I find that this pulls up most of them.

I also find that using the search on Twitter is good too, again putting in your city and job title as key words. Or usually just search for the city and the word 'job". Some jobs I've found out about because people have openly tweeted that they're applying for it. Sometimes you can also find out who is leaving their jobs through Twitter, and then you can make a speculative application to their employer (I've actually landed a job doing something similar before). LinkedIn is also great for finding out who is moving where and they also have jobs listed on there too. The great thing about LinkedIn is that it tells you if any of your contacts has a contact as the company with the job vacancy - you can then approach your contact and ask them to recommend you.
