Hand written payslips for SMP

I am due to apply for SMP soon the problem is I work for my partner at home answering the phone, invoicing etc and I dont have any formal payslips. Will this cause a problem when it comes to my payslips as I just have basic ones that I write out for myself each week. I do pay a small amount of tax and NI each week and I have a P11 filled out, do you think I will encounter any problems with SMP? Surely it must be a situation they get all the time.

Good evening 5lilpigs
You are effectively employed by your partner therefore he is liable to pay you SMP if you qualify, if you dont then you should receive a form SMP1 from your 'employer' stating the reasons why (although in your situation I assume that you will be filling this in for yourself!) You can then go to job centre/benefits agency to fill in a MA1 form to claim Maternity Allowance. You will also need to produce proof of earnings. As long as your payslips show your weekly earnings, total earnings, tax and NI to-date along with your NI number then they should be fine. You still need to qualify to receive MA although the earnings limits are a lot lower than are required for SMP and unlike SMP MA pays either the fixed amount (currently £108 ish) or 90% of your average earnings, whichever is lower for the whole 39 weeks
