Would you take on temp jobs just to keep working ?

Im back looking for work again :( after yet another Job that was advertised as perm, turned out to be temp position maybe leading to perm
This time it was to cover a long term illness - that would have led to perm if the other employee didn't return, they are returning in May so im again looking for work
first off i'm getting worried how this is gonna look on a CV or to prospective NEW employers seeing my CV with yet another temp job on it ?
AND thing is since iv'e learn' t that come end April im looking for work again - a customer where i'm temping now has said - i need someone till September would i like it ? - the answer is yes i suppose cos it will mean keeping on working BUT i don't wanna miss out should a full time job come up -
what would you all do ?

is this also the Norm these days are more and more are just taking on staff, to temp to cover busy times / illness/ holidays/ mat leave

Yes. You can block them all together under one heading on your CV as well which will make it look like less gaps. I have about 3/4 temp roles in a year and a bit and did just that after advice by Next Step.
  • Yes, in the world of today I have seen more and more short term jobs being created. It can make you look good if you have a few of these on your CV: you are in demand; you must be adaptable and able to pick things up easily; you gain different experience in different companies ...

Definately take it! As the above have said, having many temp jobs shows you are open to change and have gained a wealth of experience. Just keep looking for a perm job whilst you are in temp jobs. It is better the money is coming in than JSA! It will keep your spirits up!

I've done a lot of agency work. On my CV I've put:

1/1/2008 - 1/1/2010 Driver Hire. Driving a wide variety of vehicles, carrying a wide variety of loads throughout the UK for clients of the agency which included leading hauliers such as X,Y and Z

    ... or similar.
