Dry eyes. Eye drops?

Hello,
First of all, apologies if this is classed as asking for medical advice, i'm not sure if it is!
Over the last couple of months, my eyes have become really dry and sensitive - almost stinging at times. I suspect it's a combination of constant air conditioning at work (I didn't have this problem in my last job) and using a computer for most of the day.
I am due to have my eyes tested on Saturday as although I have glasses, they're quite old and don't seem strong enough. I'm short sighted though, so don't wear them at all during my work day as don't need them, so these won't help with this particular problem.
I will obviously ask them about this then, but wondered if anyone had any recommendations for eye drops which may help?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello freakyogre
I know just the thing to help you but I'm not going to say which eye drops (I use)................because that would be giving medical advice. You should really seek professional advice from a pharmacist or your GP.;)
In the meantime, make sure that you take breaks from staring at your computer screen and blink regularly. Even if you can't get up and walk away from your desk/computer.............look away at something or someone in the distance to give your eyes a rest from close up work.

Not medical advice of course but Viscotears gel from the pharmacy twice a day has been brilliant when I had exactly the same problem as you:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0

Thank you for your replies and the non medical advice

I will see what is suggested on Saturday and then pop to the pharmacy and get something.Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

I would go to the doctor with this condition and get something on prescription. I don't think you should treat it yourself.0

I was on viscotears for years, and it was wonderful.
Apparently, I was suffering from an unstable tear film after my use of contact lenses.
Then I had my eyes lasered for short sightedness, and one strange side effect is that I don't have my scratchy eye problem any more!0 -
I use Hylo Tear drops for my dry eyes following laser eye surgery and they're good, my DH uses them too as they're suitable for anyone. It is quite expensive but the bottle is big and the solution lasts 6 months, not 28 days like most drops.
The advice to blink a lot and look away from your screen regularly is good too; it's funny how you forget to blink when you're staring at a computer screen all day, I have to consciously make an effort to blink a lot so my eyes don't get too scratchy! :cool:Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. Thanks for the replies, I won't quote everyone as replying on my phone.
I do try and blink! I know what you mean though, it is easy not to when using a computer. They've been worse today and even things up close are blurry
They just want to be closed! Bloody air conditioning! I'll see what happens on Saturday and will go to the doctors if no joy with opticians/pharmacist.
I'm a bit worried they won't be able to do a proper examination if they're like this as guessing it will affect it in some way.Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

Not medical advice
but there are a range of 'comfort drops' eye products that do help with this. I get very dry eyes when I'm flying or when I'm in a room with constant aircon so I always have some in my bag just in case.
Though definitely worth getting checked out just to be on the safe side.0 -
BTW, as stop gaps if you're caught without drops, try smiling broadly and/or yawning. It will get a bit of moisture in your eyes. Not a lot, but better than nowt.0

My optician told me about some artificial tears/drops (?) but I can't afford them, and I find most supermarket brands don't help a lot either.
Thanks for the tip about blinking, that makes sense.
I got some moisturising eye drops from work and they are the best so far.
I can't afford a presription at the moment - hey ho.
I think the old hay fever is part of it too.
