Accountancy learning

I currently work as an administrator but having been doing the company accounts for 6 months now with a computerised system. I have a genuine interest in accounting & want to learn more to progress if necessary in the field of accountancy. I have seen various accounting packages, sage etc but these come at quite hefty costs. Does anyone have any money saving ideas for me to learn more & move into more of an accountancy field than administrative?

do AAT
you might get funding for it - http://financial.kaplan.co.uk/TrainingandQuals/Accountancy/AAT/why-study-aat-with-kaplan/Pages/government-funding.aspx as for working in an accounts role as mentioned on that page they sometimes help to find you an employer (or you might be doing enough in your current role)

How old are you? If you are under 24 yrs old you can study AAT for free.I currently work as an administrator but having been doing the company accounts for 6 months now with a computerised system. With your 6 mths experience (depending on what you have been doing) you can easily move into an accounts role at a new company.0 -

Start off with AAT as it is one of the best options available. It prepares you for beginner level accounting and progresses to much more advanced accounting techniques by the time you are at Level 3. I am aiming to complete my Level 4 AAT qualification in the next two years.
Funding is also available from AAT for various age groups. Check out aat.org.uk/qualifications/funding
Where are you planning to study it from? Also, these days there are lot of options available when it comes to the mode of study. You can choose from distance learning, online courses, classroom courses, weekend courses, evening courses etc.0 -
Sage is just a vehicle for entering 'stuff' ( couldnt think of a better word lol ) It wont teach you accounts . Instead of accontancy qualifications you could go down the book keeping route , again there are courses available . And although everything is computerised these days , imho I think its best to start with the manual book keeping route , it will teach you why rather then just howVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0

Sage is just a IT system and although it will help with your employability, it will only be in roles that use sage. I have never used it myself and I work in accountancy.
I highly recommend AAT. However as you have work experience, and depending on your current level of education, you could move straight onto CIMA or ACCA. Do some reading on the requirements and the course content to see what you think. Local colleges do evening classes and there are many training providers (Kaplan, BPP, Acorn, First Intuition) that do distance learning and online learning. There are some related threads about at the moment so maybe take a look at them too.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0
