Leasehold issues

Hi, my new partner has a leasehold property where the lease is now at 68 years. Shes been quoted a figure which she cannot simply afford, therefore is stuck in the situation of the lease continuing to expire and the amount to buy an extension increasing. Are there any real options available to her to try and sort things out? i.e swap to an interest only mortgage and use the difference between the repayment and interest only mortgage to save for the extension? She has looked at selling the flat however the land the flat was built on is showing up as contaminated land in the searches now which is wasn't when she brought it.
