    To echo what has already been said, make the most of the payrise from day one. Separate it from your "normal" wages straight away so that you don't get used to having it.
    Last time I changed jobs (18+ months ago) & got a hefty payrise I started putting the "extra" money into a savings account. I still do & essentially we still live off my old wages and save the rest.
    Obviously I don't know your tax code or circumstances, but basing it on mine, a £5K payrise would give me just over £300 per month.
