Keeping onions in long-term - powder/dehydrating?

Saw an amazing deal at a local market - a big 5kg bag of onions for 99p.
Wouldn't know what to do with them though. Ideally cook them in a huge batch in a way that they reduce down to a fraction of their size, so I was thinking of somehow powdering them? Any ideas?

I just chop 'em, bag 'em and bung 'em in the freezer raw.
I'd never heard of DIY onion powder but I just found this if it's any good?

Or just store them as they are, if they're British onions they were probably dug up last autumn so should last quite a while longer. Might be an idea to go through them and take out any that may be showing signs of going mouldy as the mould could spread throughout the bag.0

When I buy from e.g. Tescos, I can only keep them for about a month at most before they start going bad0 -
Maybe you could have a preserves day and make various things such as pickled onions, onion chutney, onion marmalade, onion jam?
Pick out the ones that look best, hang them in a cool, dry place. The ones that look like they will turn a bit quicker, preserve them!

I chop them up and put them in bags in the freezer - one onion to each bag (sandwich bags are ideal for it). I usually chop a carrot and a stick of celery into each bag too, and sometimes if I've got them a courgette or pepper. They're so handy if I'm in a bit of a hurry to cook something for dinner. I store them in a plastic lock n lock type box in the freezer as otherwise the freezer stinks!0
