You need to pasteurise the juice. 25 minutes at 75 degrees C I think, off the top of my head but do check. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

For small scale stuff we use this http://www.amazon.com/Super-Shred-Vegetable-Slicer-Rigamonti/dp/B001SCV74C
It works better than the scratter from Vigo.
You can make a press from a tray or two and a car jack if needs be or scrap wood. Try this for the basic idea http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plQdYZjpc8I
The amount of juice you get depends on how finely the apple is shredded; although torn cells produce more juice than neatly cut ones.
The scratter only produces about 30 percent juice by volume of pulp. The supershred is 60 percent. Putting it through the big yellow pulper is more like 80 percent. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

You could look at American canning sites.
http://pickyourown.org/applejuice.htm seems to have a simple to follow method.
Unfortunately pressure canning kit seems rather expensive in the UK.0 -

Yes, i just use a juicer plastic milk bottles and into the freezer. Takes two days, is sticky and messy, and i sometimes defrost apple juice instead of milk:rotfl:. the other annoying thing is that you have to work really quickly to get it bottled and in the freezer before in turns brown.
Dh wants to make cider really, but only he drinks it.0 -

I freeze in small water bottles and then pop one in my dd's lunch boxes the night before. I find you need to give it a good shake before you drink it as it is always cloudy. Apparently you can filter it before bottling but i have read this takes some of the goodness out of it. It is always cloudy when we press our apples, we have never managed to get clear juice...but this doesn't bother us.
I use a small apple press. I pulp the apples first in my food processor.0 -

Thats a superb idea. I don't have children, but if i did i would certainly consider this! We tend to use ours in cocktails, or for when we have visiting people, so defrost a big milk bottle at a time to pour into a jug.0 -
