Tesco Clubcard and Europcar

I needed to hire a car for 2 days while visiting Windsor. I thought it would be a good chance to use some Tesco Clubcard points...got the equivalent value of £135 to spend on rental with Europcar. However when I went to get the price online it came to £110....to use the vouchers you have to call...for the same car and conditions it cost £145!!..Fair enough im not technically parting with hard cash but i find that a disgrace!

Very sneaky tactics by Europcar !!! For an upcoming weekend break I used £20 of clubcard vouchers which was the equivalent of £60 in vouchers. When I rang to book a vehicle the total cost was £84 which I assumed left a balance of £24 However, once I mentioned Tesco clubcard token Number the operator stated that made a difference !! Changing the car hire from £84 to £105. Disappointed to say the least !!!

When using Clubcard tokens to pay for Europcar, the small print states that you will be charged at the 'pay on arrival' price, rather than the cheaper 'pay now'. For the last year or so, I have been happily exchanging my Clubcard vouchers to pay for car hire every now and then, as we don't own a car, so what a great way to get on the road when public transport isn't an option. The 'pay on arrival' price was usually £10-£20 more expensive for a long weekend hire, but I just changed up a few more pounds worth of Clubcard vouchers to cover this.

I changed up £25 of Clubcard vouchers to give me £75 of Europcar tokens (with the intention of topping up the rest in cash)... the 'pay now' price for the size car I usually have (one up from the smallest is £124.98, but of course using Clubcard tokens you are charged the 'pay on arrival' price..... That price now?

£517.02!!!!!!!!!!

Even once I've taken off the £75 token, I could buy a car for that!

If you wanted to splash out on a 5 door Vauxhall, previous price £235.02, you would now have to cough up £1171.50!!!

What on earth is going on??? I thought that perhaps it was that I was looking too far in advance, so waited a couple of weeks, but it's still the same.

Of course, there's no way I can afford this, so will have to go elsewhere for my car hire and lose out on the Clubcard Vouchers... I can't think for a minute that Tesco would refund them?

You should ring clubcard and ask nicely for a refund, chances are you will get a recredit of your points. What have you got to lose by asking?
We hire cars when on holiday in Europe or the US and find if you shop around with a comparison site there are huge differences in price. Try that, you may be pleasantly surprised. HTH
