Letter from ProSearch

Has anyone else recently received a letter from ProSearch, offering to help me claim cash on my Friends Provi shares that I'd forgotten about? I moved house and didn't update my address and ProSearch have obligingly 'tracked me down' and told me about this. Of course the catch is that they want 10% plus VAT to claim on my behalf. Except..... prosearch is a subsidiary company of Equiniti, who administer the shares and who could have written to me direct to point this out! I don't particularly want to pay 10% plus to collect what is my money, so plan to write to Equiniti direct.
Anyone else come accross this or similar?

Comments

  • I have received a similar letter from ProSearch, except that in my case it says "ProSearch has been appointed by a major corporation to locate [me] in connection with unclaimed entitlements". It does not name the corporation so I have no idea which of my shareholdings this may be referring to.

Could anyone advise me how to deal with this, as I also do not wish to pay ProSearch's fees for what is owned by me? (I will try Equiniti first as ProSearch is a subsidiary and will check whether I am missing any Friends Provi shareholdings following message from Sue Perflus ...)

In response to Sue Perflus - as you know which shares they are, yes, contact Equiniti (or whoever is the Registrar for your shares) and they should do this free of charge for you.
  • Why dont people just pick up the phone, there is a FREE phone number printed on all prosearch claim forms, its a helpline, as well as the FREE phone number every claim form has a Q & A section on the claim form, Equiniti also charge to re-issue the payments
