who and how do you inform when a pensioner in receipt of a state pension dies?
how quick must you do this and how long do you have to produce the death certificate?
Is there anything else that you need to supply?
thanks for reading

Immediately. You use the form supplied (BD8) by the Registrar when the death is registered. It goes to DWP direct - and they, in turn, notify HMRC (if their records have an HMRC link on them - suggesting HMRC are coding out the State Pension)

The death can be notified immediately, however, the death is likely to occur overseas as the person is too ill to travel so we are travelling out asap. I guess this complicates it. I will contact the British Consulate for advice."enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0

Ah ..... sorry, that's a distinct complication and merely adds to the pain.
So just forget DWP et al - they can wait a week or two.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

It also gives a link to FCO advice on death abroad.
Re DWP:
as long as you're aware that any amount they pay after death may need to be repaid, and let them know as soon as yopu can, it shouldn't be a big problem.
Sounds a sad situation so best wishes from me.0 -
You can phone the Pension Service if you can answer security questions about the deceased person you will not need to send in a death certificate or anything else. This should allow the Pension Service to suspend payments at the very least.
As for death overseas I would imagine it would be the same - no harm in phoning to report the death.0 -
It would be worth speaking to the FCO about this.
I dealt with a case about 3 years ago, where the general advice was to alert HMRC and any other relevant departments (depending on the residency of the deceased) straight away, however I know that the procedure now for the UK is to let the Local Authority know, and they will pass on through the ‘tell us once’ scheme.
It would be worth speaking to either your local Cllr or Council Office on Monday morning, who will be able to advise more. If you get advice, it can’t get messy.
