Slingbacks - help!

Hi All,
Do you know the feeling when you've seen the perfect pair of shoes at an affordable price but you can't try them on because they are on eBay? And on top of that they are SLINGBACKS?
I've actually brought this up on myself, since I've got a 50's dress and was specifically looking for this look for the shoes.
But the image of falling straps could finally put me off...
Does anyone know if those adhesive strips ('Strappy strips' and the like) work well? If they last only for the initial 2-3 hours, that's not good either!
Even better: any cheap way to emulate that? (apart from double sided tape which will be my last resort if everything else fails!!)
Cheers!

have you had a look to see if there are any local stockists of these shoes? When you're chewing on life's gristle, don't grumble, give a whistle.
:whistle:0 -
They are Next, and at least on the website they don't have anything even similar (I did think of it!). They are new, but I suspect they've been hidden at the back of the owner's wardrobe for a long long time (hehehe, maybe since the 50's!)0

Could you (or a dressmaker) sew the strap back on? It's difficult to say without seeing a pic but that may be a possibility.0

I don't think she means the strap is broken, she means she is worried that without having been able to try the shoes on, she might buy them and then find that they don't fit properly and the strap keeps slipping off the back of her heel.
I have to say, I just read an article in a wedding magazine about wedding shoes and one thing it said was do NOT go with slingbacks as they'll never be as comfortable as enclosed shoes.... but you know your feet and what you're used to wearing. Are they cheap enough that you could buy them anyway and still afford others if they turn out not to be the right thing for the wedding?0 -
You could always try "tit tape" - you know the stuff that you stick your tops down when wearing a revealing dress?
Are the straps adjustable?
Could you put some elastic around the strap so that it stays up?
Depending on your budget, you could always get them, see how they feel and if you don't like them, relist them?0 -
If you get the slingbacks, I swear by wig tape (you can usually get a pack quite cheaply from fancy dress shops) rather than tit-tape. It has much greater staying power as some cheaper brands of tit-tape start to loosen with sweat!
Hope that helps xxx0 -
can you post a pic of the link on ebay?
i could try searching for closed back for you, me and a few others on here have a knack of finding things
I am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0 -
Hi all, thanks for your suggestions!
I may actually get them and relist them if not good! I'm planning to spend very little
so even if not perfect, I won't lose much! And I'll still have time to get another pair before the event I've got.
I have tit tape somewhere, it'll be nicer than hardware store double sided tape but I'm not sure it'll hold.
It's got elastic rather than a buckle, I'm mostly worried at the angle of the strap.
Well, first of all, I'll have to win the auction! If I don't even succeed on that I may take up your offer as "personal shoe stylist/bargain hunter"
Thanks a lot!0 -
Oh, I skipped the comment about the wig tape! I may give it a try if I see that tit tape does it but it won't hold for long
