money shop problems, please help

hi,

I'm looking to see if someone can give me advice. I had £500 of outstandig cheques with the money shop, I was out of work several months ago and called them to let them know, they obviously didn't care as they tried to cash all 6 cheques, as i told them these all bounced so they tried all £6 again at my rbs bank (cheques were from an rbs account and the guarantee card) they got me £200 worth of bank charges but dont seem to have stopped regardless of the letters I sent to them. I have checked a Lloyds bank account I have today, which I used to make a payment in their store and to my suprise they have taken Just about about all my wages. They tried for a small amount first, then got larger until they couldn't take anymore. Eg. Tried for £25, then another £25, then £50, then £100 and so on. According to the bank its not a direct debit, just a card transaction. What right do they have to keep my Lloyds bank details on file if the money I owe them is for cheques relating to my rbs account? They have also added £300 worth of charges because of failed cheques for an amount of £500, so i now owe them £800.(a £25 charge for each failed £50 cheque) ive sent them 3 letters, one asking for a financial statement with a £1 postal order, two complaining about these charges, but haven't had any reply, they just keep trying to take the cash from my Lloyds account and text me saying "im due to make the agreed payment as previously agreed" when I haven't agreed anything with them as they ignore my letters which I sent via recorded delivery.

Any advice would be appreciated, today i got the bank to cancel my card and send me another one but still the same account, is there any way they can still get it if my card details have changed?

It's an unauthorised payment, first I would try and do a chargeback with the bank, is it a visa debit card by the way that they have taken the money out of ? Also trying to cash all the cheques at once, did you Pre date them ? You could try your bank on the charges for them. If you put up an SOA people may be able to help you cut down on your spending .

Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?
  • Okay ill give the bank another call, yeah it was a visa debit card.
I've already sent the bank a letter about claiming these charges back and had a reply saying its being investigated so hopefully ill get something resolved with the bank and their charges but I still can't believe how the money shop can get away with adding £300 charges for an amount of £500 :(

Thanks for the quick reply and ur help so far.
  • i meant to say that when i gave them the cheques they told me not to out a date in as I can pay to extend them if I can't afford to repay the whole amount but it got on top of me when I was out of work and told them I couldn't afford to extend them any more either.
  • After taking £125 this morning they just text saying they haven't received my agreed payment. I wonder how much the agreed payment they came up with by themself was. Glad I got to the rest of my wages before they did. Have never deal with a company so ruthless before lol

Ruthless yes, acting not within guidelines quite possibly, you need to insist that the bank do a charge back, there is links that I have posted before in regards to this, will look through my posting history to see if I can find it. They were from CAG though that is all I can remember. Unless someone else posts them I will look when I am on my pc rather than phone.

  • Okay ill need to look into it and call them in the morning, they have told me the amount but can't do anything until the money is actually out my account so ive to call back 2moro as they refused to even let me speak to the fraud dept lol if a chargeback happens what's the timescale? I'm guessing its depending on the circumstances?
  • Well Lloyds were useless they said they do have a right to store my card details as I owe them money and there is nothing they can do about it, even if I get a new card apparently they can still get money from my account..... Problem solved = new bank with someone else lol?? I dont mind paying what I borrowed back to them but the fact they've added rediculous charges and ignored my letters means they're going to end up getting nothig at all.
I sent a letter over a month ago with a £1 postal order asking for a financial statement as noone via email or phone could tell me what I owed before the charges and this was the only way I could find out... Joke lol
