FTB To broker or not?

  • Try to remember that moneysupermarket is a marketing tool too. It will just produce some figures based on then rough figures you've entered, whereas a broker will know a bit more about your situation. With their experience they'll also know which lenders are more likely to accept your application.

You don't really want to apply for 2-3 mortgage off your own back and get rejected each time.

Lots of wise words to think on, but as a first timer I suspect the broker is the way to go. Thank you all so much for your time and taking the trouble to respond. Best wishes.

I didn't mean any kind of offence! (If you read to the bottom of the post, you'll see that I'm full of praise of her work and that we really value having her on board.)

We were essentially given the choice of paying a fee, or not- none of the above was explained to us, so naturally we went for no fee. I didnt realise that the nature of her services would change...The company website says 'whole of market... independent'- so naturally that's what I thought the service was.

I accept that I might be a naive and inexperienced FTB, but I wasn't trying to accuse our broker of anything untoward!

No offence taken at all, I apreciate the pro-broker comments.

I was just trying to explain the difference in services that are available. Unfortunately (in my opinion) we have been lumbered with definitions that dont do what you would expect.

The main thing is that you are happy with the service you got and you understood the pros and cons of using your broker.
