Widows pension

I am a 76 year old pensioner and I at present recieve the state pension an a small company pension my wifes pension is obtained on what I paid in,could anyone tell me what she would recieve in the event of my death and how much this would amount to. Thankyou.

    Assuming you receive a full basic state pension, then your wife would also receive this on your death. She may also inherit some of your SERPS/S2P entitlement.

    The company pension - was it final salary? If so the normal is for the widow to receive half of it but you would need to clarify that with your pension provider.

    There may not be any SERPS/S2P if the OP was contracted-out into an employer's pension scheme in the relevant years.

    I agree but it's suprising. My late husband, for all the years I knew him, was in a contracted out scheme. Turns out though that I stand to inherit £40pw from his SERPS.
  • She might also become entitled to benefits like pension credit which would supplement her income.
