Mortgage Application

Hi Folks,

My wife and I are currently in the process of applying for joint mortgage. I am employed, but my wife is self employed.
The problem we have encountered is as follows...
Here is an extract from a letter we recieved from the lender....

Please forward last 2 years Tax returns as recieved document not acceptable. We require ones accepted by Inland Revenue and not the ones submitted by applicant.

Vague?

Ok, I phoned the lender to ask for more specific information on what they require.. and they can't tell me, or at least not for the next 24 to 48 hours.

Surely, they have had self-certify applicants in the past and should be able to specify what exact document they require us to submit.
As the tax returns were performed online, we will probably have to contact the tax office to send us copies as printouts etc are not sufficient.

Can anyone offer an advice here? Most Inland Revenue documents have a code number (e.g. SA302) surely the bank can quote the code for the document they require!

Thanks in Advance..

Mr Q.

When you submit your tax return, online or by post, you receive a confirmation in writing from the IR once the return has been accepted. It is this that the lender will want.

Who is the lender? You mention self certify. Is it a self certify mortgage you have applied for?

It's not a self certify mortgage. We need tax return information as proof of my wife's income.

    Lender is Woolwich / Barclays.

IR send you a lot of information regarding your tax returns etc.. I don't understand why the bank cannot be more specific and state exactly what they require.

i am not sure but i believe the SA300 and SA310 also state your yearly income on so should also be accepted. maybe someone else can shed some light on this. Im an underwriter but have not come across these before (everyone just sends in SA302 or acceptable accounts) so not sure what they state.
