Is there an employer subsidy in the UK?

I didn't know such a thing existed until today, but in Northern Ireland an employer gets a subsidy of £75 a week for 26 weeks for taking on an unemployed person. The long running theory on here has been that most jobs got to people already employed so I wonder why companies don't take advantage of this, probably like me don't know anything about it.

There was mention of doing a similar thing in Wales for young people. My opinion on this is that when it happens, employers will just go for the cheap labour. Once the cheap period is up, the employee will wave goodbye, as another subsidised one is recruited. This also means people who are not subsidised have less chance of getting a job. Much like the workfare programme that saw people working in Tesco, Poundland etc for their benefits, and no pay from the organisation raking in billions of profit. http://www.boycottworkfare.org/Wanted a job, now have one. :beer:0

Fair enough. I've not been unemployed for more than a decade.
There are still definitely employer subsidies through various schemes though, especially for those on sickness related benefits.0 -
Isn't a whole chunk of the benefits system a form of employer subsidy - how else can there be so many working poor, who couldn't pay their household bills without the government top ups? (Working tax credits etc.)0

I do not know about those on the sick but there are no subsidies for others to get back in to workNotmyrealname wrote: »Fair enough. I've not been unemployed for more than a decade.

Doesn't really matter anyway as the unemployment rate continually rises every month over here.0
