Sequence have the ability to drop the fee. Tell them you are going to use a fees free guy as you dont want to pay the lifetime fees, but as you like him you will use him IF he drops the fee altogether.

Why not just call up Halifax and do it over the phone or in branch??

    Saves you the fee

Do they really treat general applications the same as mortgage broker applications?

I thought they get prefferencial treatment as they deal with them a lot!

Lenders are more interested in the "borrower" than the source of the business.

I never thought that Halifax would look at us with defaults of 2 years. This seems strange.......

I'm sorry to say I half expected this.

    How did you find out?

If that is the case, then why did the Mortgage advisor even bother putting me forward and stating I had an AIP. This is classed as thievery really isn't it? Trying to sucker me into to paying his fee. I think I should report him to someone, if I can. Is there anyone I can report him to, make him prove I have an AIP. I have the emails from him!

Your broker acted in good faith. Not their decision to decline your application for a mortgage. An AIP is not a formal mortgage offer.

I guess so... Still, I am not sure I believe that. He asked for no previous addresses etc etc and I thought I smelt a fish... Still. We move on.

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE HELP!

I have just had this problem with the Halifax too. My mortgage advisor got me a decision in principal, i paid for my valuation last week which they took out straight away, and i have now found out they will no longer give me a mortgage cos of a default on my credit rating from 4 years ago, even though it was settled 2 years ago.
