Best Veg Box Service?

I'm thinking about giving the veg box delivery thing a try - while it's not critical to me that it's organic, it does seem like a convenient way of getting more veg into my diet. As far as I can see, in London the options would be Abel & Cole, https://www.organicdelivery.co.uk, or Riverford Organics. I'd be looking to get a small mixed or veg box, and price seems to range from about £8-£12. Does anyone have any recommendations or experience with any of these companies, or maybe another company?

I've used both and would say I prefer Riverford by a mile but then I got Abel and Cole through a courier who abused the boxes and I could only get mixed boxes from them because of where we live where as with Riverford I get their full service. I'm not sure where Abel and Cole get their fruit and veg from it may be a wholesalers but Riverford work with local farmers where possible and build up a good relationship with their suppliers and put time and effort into researching varieties that taste great even if they don't look like supermarket veg. I've never had to throw out anything when it's arrived where as with A&C I had to throw something away with each delivery as it was already over ripe - this may have been because of the courier service though so you may have better luck. One big advantage of A&C is that you can make a list of what you don't like and they'll substitute items so you don't miss out. Riverford at the moment don't do this but they're working on a system so that they can but it'll be a little while yet. What I tend to do is have a look what's in the boxes each week (changes every weekend on the website) and then pick the box that best suits. Both are managed on the internet and are easy to use and friendly and both offer extras (for where you are) which means you can get things like milk and eggs as well. There's another thread on Money Saving Old Style about veg boxes and there are several people who are very happy with their A&C service so don't take my bad experience as the only voice... I have to say customer service from both has been excellent.

  • I use Abel and Cole and i have found them fantastic. I haven't had to through anything away. They are great whether i email, phone or use the website. It was the website that swung it for me to start with, and the quality of service that i've had since is what keeps it.
