Alternative use for useless eye cream

Options
I made a big blunder in buying some Clinique RepairWear Intensive Eye Cream. I've persevered for about 6 weeks now and have gained horrendous puffy eyes with bags under them that are more like suitcases. Needless to say I've very quickly tracked down my "normal" eye cream which had been out of stock when I had my moment of madness in purchasing the above.

Being an MSE person I'm reluctant to throw the stuff out, due to the price, but what can I do with it? I've been thinking about hand cream for the back of my hands to see if it fares any better there - I guess if they were plumped up I wouldn't be too distressed! Any thoughts?

Have you been putting it on too thickly? if it is a rich cream that might have caused the puffiness. You could use it above the upper lip to plump out that

No, very sparingly. After about the first week when I was horrified at how my eyes were already looking I ventured back to the Dept store where I'd bought it and dared to mention that I thought it was doing more harm than good. I'm sure the assistant would have washed my mouth out with carbolic soap if she could have. She made me demonstrate how I had been applying it and how much and then said it was the correct amount and clearly I'd been using such poor cream before that this was a "period of cleansing and detox" before the true effects kicked in. I should just have stopped using it then as I think it's going to take a few weeks to get my skin back to where it was before I started using it.

Good point about the lips - will try that, cheaper than Botox!

  • I have been using eye cream up on my elbows, lovely and soft now! Failing that foot cream, can't go wrong using cream up on your feet!

To be honest I'd bring it back and complain. Mainly cos I'd be pretty hacked off that they hadn't heard the issue in the first place. These things are too expensive to write off IMHO. Boots have always been good at taking things back when I've needed to do so.

I would post it back to Clinique customer services with a reasonably-worded factual letter, which also mentions the response you got from the in-store Clinique lady and a proof of purchase, if you have it, but would still do it even if you didn't.

Pass the ball back into their court, once I've sent the product back to them, I've pretty much always found I've had a positive and fruitful response.

I agree with the above posts - take it back to Clinique, they say they refund if it doesn't work (or words to that effect)

If you can't be bothered with trying to return it use it on your cuitcles.

It'll be a teeny handbag sized tube so handy for carrying around?

You should definitely send it with a letter. Serious companies like that would be happy to give you refund/voucher just to make you quiet. One unhappy customer can do a lot of harm on the Internet, so they take things like this seriously.
  • Clinique products (creams) are unsuitable for my skin, heard similar complains from some of my friends. I tried them in the past and didn't like them at all, so gave away. Lucky I stopped in time.
I feel sorry for you because you continued using it after noticing that it's not good for you. Hope you will get your beauty back soon.
