eBay debt collection agency chasing me

Hi,

I had some unpaid eBay fees, which got passed to eBay's DCA called "Newman"

I have cleared the balance with eBay, and now happily using my eBay account again, but this DCA are still chasing me for their £16 debt collection fee they added on top of the balance.

Should I pay it?

Personally I wouldn't and I think there being cheeky for asking. I cant see that there would be any comeback on you if you didn't. they cant mark it on your credit file as you have not given them authority to do so and they certainly wouldn't take you too court. And as you've already stated you are happily eBaying again.

I have had a similar problem, which Newman DCA were sending me letters, but even before I recieved a letter from them, I paid off the debt to ebay directly via bank card. Now since I have paid the debt Newman DCA have sent me 2 letters for the grand sum of £8(!) in their admin fees.

So following the advice on this forum, I called ebay and they are saying that I have to pay Newman DCA in full, otherwise they will take my goods.

So even though Newman did not own the debt and ebay did, my account has been re-instated, I have a reciept of the payment to ebay and account re-instatement, but still Newman DCA are claiming I owe ebay money and are hastling me constantly at work and home.

Why should I pay this company for a debt they did not own, why should I pay them when my account has been reinstated after I paid what I owed to ebay independently?

Do they have a leg to stand on, and will they keep adding invisible charges? I won't pay this out of principle as I have already paid what I owe, and I think these companies are trying their luck...
    Help!
  • The debt collectors had a job to do, have done it, and now need paying for it. I guess E-Bay's view is that they had to employ a debt collector because you didn't pay what you owed and they don't see why they should have to pay for that.

The debt collectors probably wouldn't pursue you through the courts for such a small amount but they could add charges as they step up the collection process and eventually it would be worth their while. They will also have legions of people they pay minimum wage to whose sole job will be to see how long it takes people to give in and pay up so don't expect their phone calls and letters to stop anytime soon.

I'd be tempted to pay up and be done with it before it gets any worse!
