Hot water on the go, 12v kettle or camping stove
Hi, because I spend all day in my van and would like a cuppa now and then, I don't know which to buy, a 12v kettle or a stove that uses small butane gas cans, I think the cheapest option is a 12v kettle, I am prepared to wait 15 minutes for it to boil as I am often in the same place for hours, also I have a spare battery but I am unsure how many times I can boil it before the battery becomes flat, or I can just buy a camping stove and use that but i don't know how expensive the gases are, what are your thoughts?
Thank you
Thank you

Can't you leave the engine running, surely between boils your battery would be recharged by using the van anyway?0

There's far less fire risk with a kettle than using a camping stove inside your van

That sort of use is going to be fairly tough on any battery.
Possibly the cheapest method is something like a Trangia meths-based stove. I still use mine in preference to a gas one that I also have, because it's cheaper to run.0 -
What about a vacuum flask (I used to take one into work as an alternative to the machine stuff).0

Many truck drivers use gas cookers. Don't want to be using meths because the flame is almost invisible.0

Gas inside the van needs proper ventilation.
I would just take a flask. If you dont like stewed tea, Fill it with boiling water and make the tea freshly.
Small packets of milk and sugar are great.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Trangia meths-based stove, how much are these to run? Flask no good because I only have a limited hot water, its tastes different as it cools.0

You can get 12v heating elements that you drop into a container, this is a nice compact way of heating water. Put the water in your cup, drop the element inside, wait 10mins, remove element and make your cuppa.
Cheap as chips on Ebay too......“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Do these actually reach boiling point or just make it hot?0 -
Jetboil, made to just heat up water, nice small but effective flame, and nice and sturdy.
