I'm off on hols in December and from the experience of my last trip overseas I discovered (painfully) that contacts and sand don't mix :-/.  

sonia1963 - Where are you going for your hols? The reason why I ask is that we get our prescription glasses done when we go to Malaysia.

To give you an idea on the cost, my husband had a new pair with varifocals done. I had a new pair with high index lens. Then the 2 of us reuse our old frames and get the optician to replace the lens with the new prescription. All this lot cost us a total of about £250! My brother who lives in Malaysia thought this was exorbitant and asked if they were made of gold!!

Totally unrelated, my husband also had a new crown fitted at the dentist for a pricely sum of £50!

if you buy contact lenses from specsavers you can get their £75 range for half price.

hi1 im pleased you managed to get the glasses that you wanted but just for anybody else looking there is a company called glassesdirect.co.uk who deal soley online and you just choose a frame and send them your prescription - prices range from £15 to £45 all inclusive!
