hi everyone,
i am new to crafting and making things, struggle to sew buttons on usually
but i have seen some pretty little things to make for my baby daughter that are called hood flowers-they are basically a corsage for your pram hood with the babys name put on the ribbon.
it has a large flet flower or hair type flower with a magnet underneath and attached to a length of ribbon then another magnet on the end of the ribbon-the flower goes to the outside the ribbon wraps round the hood and fastens on the inside
I have collected all the bits apart from the magnets...their is soooo many to choose from and i cant find out whcih would do!! any ideas??
I have seen neyodynum (sp?) flat discs about 10mmx2mm and i think they look right and would hold ok but im worried they will rust as the seller of these said they arnt good in damp conditions ect...i dont want a big rust spot lol the ceramic ones seem much better and cheaper but the seller of these types say they dont attract each other........agghhhh help!!
oh and i am aware not to let my daughter near them even when on the hood!!
thanks if anyone can offer any suggestions or perhaps a better way of attaching them?? :money:

I would be very tempted to substitute velcro discs for magnets, less dangerous for baby and easier to use.0

That won't work, what the OP is describing is 2 decorative bits connected by ribbon with one each side of the hood kept in place by the 2 magnets attracted to each through the hood.
Personally I'd steer well clear of anything like this as the potential for danger is too big - choking on small parts, asphyxiation from the ribbon, or other injuries from grabbing the ribbon e.g. getting it wrapped round tiny limbs etc.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -

I agree. You only have to take your eyes off a tiny person for a nano second and they can behave like an octopus and grab anything in sight. While the flower sounds like a lovely idea, I don't think it's worth the risk because as your baby daughter grows she will find a way to pull it off the pram hood.

If you are set on using magnets then you need to be using something a lot stronger than a 10x2mm neodymium disk magnet. I've made corsages and I work for a magnet company. The very smallest magnet you should use is a 20x3mm neodymium disk. This is because magnets, and some of the elements on pram charms and corsages are choking hazards and you do not want the baby to be able to pull them off!0

Why not attach the corsage to a large safety pin?
