Anyone know the cost of replacing a laptop screen as mine has a crack in it that is distorting some of the picture?

I did mine myself and so can you, it is really quite easy.
I had a cracked screen on my Acer and it was out of waranty. A guy in PC World suggested I do a search in Youtube for a tutorial for my particular laptop and that's what I did.
It described how to do it in detail, even down to what to look for when ordering the new screen. I ordered one online and it arrived 3 days later and cost about £65 with a year's guarantee. It even said what tools you would need, and I bought a cheap screwdriver set in Homebase.
To get it done locally, (Bangor area) it was going to cost £100 for the screen (which he said was a reconditioned one) and at least £50 for labour.
I had the new one fitted in less than 20 minutes.
Go for it, its really easy.0 -
Yeah i echo what Big A says , my niece replaced her laptop screen herself and she had probably never changed so much as a plug before.

It really is easy to fit these yourself.
See below link for instruction video - you can order the screen from this site also.

1. Toshiba Satellite C650D. Just taken one apart. More than 50 screws to take out. It needs the entire top part of the laptop to be removed before you can get at the latches to take off the screen bevel.
2. Dell XPS (i think) some years ago. No screws on the bevel. Bevels Glued together. A complete mess.
I've also replaced screens in 20 minutes.
It's a lottery.
If you don't have service manual I wouldn't even attempt it.
Just because some are easy, doesn't mean they're all easy.0 -
Thanks to everyone for their posts!
Before I had the chance to read these I had found a guy who works from home in Bangor who has ordered the screen.
He is charging including the labour about £70-80 which I thought was a good price.0 -
glad you got sorted - that sounds about right to meComp Wins 2011 : Cant wait to start listing everything:j:j:j0
