Any miracle cures (please!!) for Tonsillitis? (or any help for severe throat pain)

Try the fizzy water/diluted juice/squash as it is much, much easier to swallow than still water.
I've just been put back on antibiotics today as I have another throat infectionand was told it can take up to 5 days for them to take effect... In fact they can make you feel worse while they do their work...

I did give the OOH service a call and spoke to the nurse practitioner who basically said not given it long enough, give it another day for antibiotics to kick in. Sit and wait. Because I can force myself to swallow at least water, even in agony, it's all fine. To be expected!
Ah- I'm sorry I didn't realise you were already taking antibiotics, they do take their time to kick in and for me took about 6 days of the 7 day course to make a real difference to me- I was a bit scared as I wasn't even able to walk fast as I couldn't breathe, it was too painful. They did work though and it was a gradual thing, it then became about treating the symptoms- please make sure whatever you do take its OK and wont mess with the job of the antibiotics which I would say to stick out for a while longer.
I guess its about resting, it sounds hard to say it and maybe gives you an idea of why people need to rest when they are ill and that its not about having some time off to feel better, its more about letting your body have the time to do its thing and whilst it does may knock you out a bit whilst it works on the problem. My mum's advice for getting ill is just to sleep and hope that its a bit better when you wake up. If your not finding it possible to sleep (which, unless I've misread again you are), maybe look at mild sleeping medication?0 -
I find drinking chilled bitter lemon is soothing for a sore throat. Not sure whether it would touch your problem, but anything's worth a try - that's if you have any or can get hold of some of course.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Ibuprofen will get the swelling down better than paracetamol will, and then you'll find it easier to gargle. Salt water is rank but it seems to help, as does gargling with dissolved aspirin.
I always find drinking lots of water as hot as I can take it seems to help. Can add ginger/lemon/honey if you want. Alternate that with cold stuff, icecream is your friend!0 -
I've just been slowly dying in the background!
I do actually feel a reasonable bit better. My throat has probably gone from sheer agony to really quite sore again. But I found a trade off with pills. frozen Lollipops forced until throat was numb, then hit with a reasonably warm cup of tea/hot chocolate to take the pills with.
My fever's gone substantially. I hadn't realised how much I was fluctuating between hot and cold. Still feeling like I could sleep the day away, and do seem to be doing so now.
Coughs come up a corker though! Gunna go find a shop that's open to go get some cough mixture to hopefully fix that somewhat too
I think I've made it through to the other side!0 -

Make sure you speak to a pharmacist- not only because you need tro make sure its OK with your antibiotics but also because many don't work, they are just there to lubricate rather then treat your throat and don't tend to work as well for very bad throats. The good stuff is generally OTC and you have to ask specificly for it (so will need to speak to a pharmacist).0 -
Hello! Just a update
Still have it -.- Went back to doctors yesterday about the really manky cough I now have, and whilst chest was fine, he had another look and said it was still very pus.sy and that it should've improved so much that it should almost have gone. SO new different set of antibiotics to do for a week. It however is better from Sunday though, so whilst still so raw and quite sore to swallow, I can bear this having had the sunday horror0
