Hello all. Does anyone out there know how i can take my name off our deeds and leave our house in my husbands name? Also, how much does this cost as we are both strapped for cash. Thanks

You need the lender's agreement. £200ish.
You need legal change of ownership via a solicitor. £400ish.0 -
if the property is mortgage free then you can do it yourself by contacting the land registry
if you have a mortgage then you need the lender's permission; this may or may not be forthcoming
why do you wish to do this?0 -
both of us lost our jobs with cut backs we couldnt afford to live in our home any longer so we moved out and rented the place but now we have to do self assessments we dont understand what we are doing and someone said why dont you put the house in 1 persons name then we at least only have one self assessment to worry about (we think?)... now because its late we have to pay late fees as well when we already are strapped for cash. the rent doesnt cover the morgage...so we have to top up. ideally we would just like to sell the place so we dont have the worry but at this point we're trying anything...0

I doubt a lender will agree to the request while the mortgage is in arrears.0

so is this our only route, we cant pay for our home, the bank repo it, try to sell it for what we owe them and the gov for late self assessments etc. if they dont get their price cos the economy's in deep doo-doo we need to pay whatever is left owing and if we cant we go to jail?...0

Please, please stop worrying about going to jail, that will never happen so get it out of your head.
More people will be along who will give you excellent advice.

I guess im just a dot in an ocean of people who are worried and sad that what they have worked so hard for is slowly slipping through their fingers. we are just looking for a way to save our home and not end up out on the street... with no roof over our heads. i detest this negative defeatist attitude thats slowly creeping into my personality. thanks for your encouraging words though annie. maybe we should just actively try to sell the house.0

It may just help you to find the strength that you know lives inside.
