Residential School Trip - surprises

You are all so good at gifts and original ideas, I wondered if anybody could help.
My ten year old daughter is soon going on a week long school trip away. She has only ever had a night away so I think she may find it hard (not as hard as me!). I would like to hide a little bag in her luggage with little things to open each day and wondered if anybody had bright ideas of things I could put in. She isn't allowed food or sweets. I don't want to make her homesick!
I was also wondering about making a teacher survival kit for her teacher for the trip! Don't know if that is a rubbish idea! Any suggestions for this would be welcome.
Thankyou

As a teacher, I think the survival kit is a fabulous idea! It definitely needs chocolate then perhaps paracetamol!
For your daughter it really depends on what they are allowed to take. Is she taking a camera? If not, one gift could be a disposable camera. How about a notebook or journal and nice pen? Pretty hair stuff?Making money for Christmas 2012!0 -
Thanks for your help and great ideas NickyBo. I must admit chocolate and paracetemol were on my list for teachers and earplugs! As you have been encouraging I might go ahead and make a pretty bag/box up for her teacher.
Any other ideas would be most welcome ...
Thankyou0 -
Sachet/sample sizes of shower gel/shampoo? (For both!)
For the teacher one of those 25 cl bottles of wine? (To have whan she gets home and has a much-needed long bath;))
I've done a few residentials with Y5s, activity residentials - the children really do benefit from them so much, they seem to really grow and mature; and very few children actually get homesick!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

book and maybe travel solitaire for when they are too physically worn out to be bothered. Little cuddly toy. Fun, colourful socks. Maybe a sturdy box or bag with her name on for memories, ie something she can chuck all those important pieces of paper, souvenirs and other rubbish to keep in one place!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Print out a copy of this old classic for her:
Hello Mudda, Hello Fadda
Here I am at Camp Granada
Camp is very entertaining
And they say we'll have some fun if it stops raining
I went hiking with Joe Spivey
He developed poison ivy
You remember Leonard Skinner
He got ptomaine poisoning last night after dinner
All the counselors, hate the waiters
And the lake has alligators
And the head coach, wants no sissys
So he reads to us from something called Ullyses
Now I don't want this should scare ya
But my bunkmate has malaria
You remember, Jeffrey Hardy
They're about to organize a searching party
Take me home, oh Mudda Fadda
Take me home, I hate Granada
Don't leave me out in the forest where
I might get eaten by a bear
Take me home, I promise I will not make noise
Or mess the house with other boys
Oh please don't make me stay
I've been here one whole day
Dearest Fadda, darling Mudda
How's my precious, little brudda
Let me come home, if you miss me
I would even let Aunt Bertha hug and kiss me
Wait a minute, it stopped hailing
Guys are swimming, guys are sailing
Playing baseball, gee that's betta
Mudda, fadda, kindly disregard this letta0 -

DS had already decided to go then it was opened up to DDs year:eek:
But the trip will have been risk assessed, if it's outdoorish activities the activities will be led by qualified leaders - one thing I will say to you is give her permission NOT to miss you/worry about you.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

I think that is a lovely idea and will have to remember it for when my little ones go on their first residentials. I hope she has a lovely time
