Debt in my name but its not me !

I dont know if this is the correct board to post this on , so it can be moved if necessary.
Just recently I have been receiving mail from a debt collection agency regarding a Goldfish card with a bill of just over £2000. I have never had an account with Goldfish. I returned the first few letters marked - not at this address - and now I have started to receive phone calls.
I have told them when they ring that I dont have an account but they continue to ring. This morning I received another letter so I actually called them to say stop sending me letters/calling me. Then a few hours later they rung me again asking me to pay the full amount !
What can I do to stop this happening ? It seems that this person and I share the same name and dob.
Thanks PP

They are trying their luck in the hope they have the right person! They have probably bought the debt from another company and are trying to call it in so they can make money from it.
It might be that they have the same name, but wrong person, or they might be chasing a debt at your current address - have seen your name on the electoral roll and addressed it to you.
Martin wrote an article about it. I will try to find it and post the link.

This post was a similar situation. Basically, you need to send a registered letter to them insisting they supply the credit agreement:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=386974&highlight=acknowledge
I think you should alter the first paragraph to say:
I believe you have contacted me in error as neither I nor any family member have held a credit agreement with the referenced organisation , I do not knowledge ANY debt to your company. Therefore, I require you to supply the following documentation before I will correspond further on this matter.
add the following paragraph before the end paragraph:
Your agents are continuing to harass me at my home, even after I have informed them on numerous occasions that you have the wrong individual and have returned your post unopened. I believe your agents' behaviour to be in breach of section 40 of the Administration of Justice Act and will now be maintaining a record of your calls so I can seek legal advice.
Then make sure you keep a record so you can seek advice from Citizens advice if they continue, but I suspect they won't.
Good luck!
