UK mortgage for brit living abroad

Hi all

I'm a UK citizen, paid through a UK company but have been living and working in Switzerland for past 12 years. I have some houses in UK that are currently unencumbered, and ability to put down 25% deposit.

I am looking to buy another property to "add-value" and then sell/rent. I assume the type of mortgage may restrict my ability to rent.

I know that mortgages are harder to achieve in the current climate, not helped by being a non-resident. Does anyone know of a good option to get an expat mortgage? I've tried HSBC, but they require £50k on deposit, plus the initial deposit. This isn't possible for me right now.

Many thanks.

  • Most lenders will only consider ex pats for main residence loans only.

The only time this is different if it is forces personnel.

You have BTL's currently and depending on the number and who with, some are now limiting their exposure on BTL's to borrowers to maybe 3-5 properties in their group.
  • Here's one for someone : )
I'm living/working in the US, and have been saving hard..:T..
to buy a home in the UK, as I still spend much time there.
Can anyone recommend a bank for me to approach for a loan? I'll need not more than $50K. And...
If granted a mortgage, and eventually paid off, am I then at liberty to rent it to holiday makers, as I so desire (providing I claim income on my US taxes).. or, does some governing entity have me by the short and curlies.. as per usual?

    Thanks fella's for any info.
Barcleys and Lloyds turned me down. I needed 100K in saving's (that i do actually), I needed to borrow at least 100K ( don't want that), and I needed to show proof I earned 100 K per annum. All GBP.
... and for my next trick.....
