Well, 55 times more popular than sockie arguments and name calling, at any rate. The investment board where the economy is often discussed and the main housing board are doing ok:

    Savings & Investments(224 Viewing)
House Buying, Renting & Selling(166 Viewing)

I think thrugelmir's idea was a good one, house price discussions are so noughties. I'm not sure what jimmy was on about as I was asking for other people's opinions on this board, not the board where my MFW challenge is recorded (the MFW board, unsurprisingly), but then jimmy is one of the problems killing this board.

What you having a pop at me for ?

I think the difference between this board and most of the others is that there are lots of personal issues on the other boards, i.e. "my benefit has been cut", "Is my builder ripping me off", "Am I using the correct pension advisor" etc.

There's a lot more wider issues discussed/debated/argued on this board, and for that reason alone I believe this board should be retained.

I also think that most of the posters on here are highly likely to be surfing between the various boards in between posting on this one, which probably depresses the "currently viewing" figures.
Nothing is foolproof, as fools are so ingenious! :D

I don't really care how many people view the board, I'll carry on using it as long as I find it interesting / less boring than other stuff.

To be honest the fewer people who read some of the Sockpuppet driven dross on here the better.

I don't really follow the who-hates-who on here, but the personal comments are VERY tiresome.

I totally agree. A good example is this thread where I posted a general observation and asked others for their opinions of whether the board had served its purpose. While everyone else was happy to discuss the points I raised, jimmy posted personalised the debate:

So what you are really saying is that you want this board shut down because you dont want to admit that your masterplan may not work.

Id prefer the board to be left open boss.

As you don't follow the 'who-hates-who' (not sure that people 'hate' to be fair) you won't know that jimmy was simply having a dig at my personal financial goals. I pointed him into the right direction to follow my challenge (the MFW board) and remarked that it's his sort of personal attacks that are ruining the board.

As shortchanged wisely pointed out, it's hard not to get suckered in by the sockies and dragged down to their level. I normally have jimmy on ignore (with the rest of his obvious sockies, and the others who have admitted they come here just to 'fight') but for the purposes of this thread I read his comments - obviously a waste of my time because instead of commenting on the issue raised in the thread, he launched yet another personal attack.

The whole point of my thread is to point out how these 'in fights' are killing the board and driving people away. We can't have a debate on anything without it being ruined by daft arguments. As shortchanged has said, even decent posters get dragged into the madness.

More recently I've just added more and more posters to my ignore list. Works well in terms of filtering out the rubbish.

Providing there's a core of posters that maintain an adult level of debate. Then the forum can survive. Up to us as individuals to maintain a level of etiquette. Respect each others views even if we disagree. Boycott nonsense threads etc.

I am one of those you refer to. Must admit I thought this would be an interesting board, and that I could learn a thing or two, but all it seems to be predominantly is two groups of people with conflicting views, one ramping prices and one wanting prices to fall, and when either parties views are challenged it often resorts to name calling and alter ego's 'sockies' to try and back up points. There are some very good posters on here, with very good points to make, there is no doubt of that, there is also a lot of dross.

I thought as grown ups we would have all left that kind of behaviour at the school gate, clearly it seems not in some cases.
Dont wait for your boat to come in 'Swim out and meet the bloody thing' ;)

You forgot to mention the fact you have on more than one occasion implied that i am in fact a p3adophile.

I am a man who lives with his parents because i couldnt afford to buy a house during the boom. The banks were constantly pestering me telling me that i could afford it. I watched people around me start to pay over 100k for a 2 bed terrace, i chose not to do this because that is an astronomical price to pay for your first home in a rough northern town.

I also held off from buying during the boom because lots of older people i know told me that the boom would bust at some point as it always does, another reason was all the old timers at work told me that at some point there is a very real chance that i would lose my long term job in the construction industry.

Good job i listened to those older and wiser than myself because i did infact lose my job when the crash started and if i had bought a 100k house i would have most definitely had it repossed by now as i have been in and out of work a lot over the last few years due to the construction industry dying a death.

You have sat there over the last few months and somehow convinced yourself that i am in fact a southerner who works in IT and that i have fabricated my whole life to somehow crash prices in the north even though you think i dont live here.

You can sit there and act all superior all you want captain sensible but its not going to stop me making my own mind up on what i should or shouldnt write.

Now off you trot and go and ridicule people who have lived in the same house all their lives and are not completely obsessed with the price tag of their house.

You crack on and do your very best to convince everybody i am a southerner with an army of sockies lad.

    Enjoy your eggs:)
  • lots of depressing people on here. also lots of extremists (not religious ones, but some who think prices are going to soar away soon thanks to too many people and others that think the 70% price crash is around the corner, if not already here).

i like this board because it is depressing. not many (((((hugs)))))) here.
