  • You can get a 14 day (and sometimes a 30 day - usually advertised in the Express or similar newspapers) free trial on https://www.ancestry.co.uk but will need to provide payment (ie credit/debit card) details in advance. You need to remember to cancel before they take first payment out.

Try familysearch.org Ancestry usually do free trials. I signed up to ancestry after my free trial as I found it very useful. PM me if you need any help :)
  • Try:

    http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

A great site linked to ancestry;)
  • Or on their American site, you can get a free three day trial at moment with no need to give credit card details. Once started and logged on you can then click through to UK site from links on the homepage and use it for three for the 3 days too.

  • Hi I spend alot of time doing this and I must say that the people on rootschat are particularly helpful if you ask for help on their boards even if they do not share the same family intrests as you. Ancestry is particularly good as you can search other peoples family trees which is helpful if you share ancestors and you can search the 1881 census free. I think you can search bmd also there. familysearch is also a very useful site. Just want to say I agree with butterflymum, it is soooo addictive!
