With a little help from my friend I have come up with an adult product that I'd like to market/sell. Where would be the best place to adertise this? Does ebay sell adult items? This is not a sex toy, but is more in line with a lingerie item (kind of). Thanks

The only really viable online site would be eBay, but they are surprisingly moralistic and ban anything they consider 'adult'. it really depends on just how adult it is whether you risk ebayor not, but as they often ban sales after a successful run I would be careful at putting too much money into the business.
Also remember that as a business you would need to comply with the DSRs which means your address viable on all listings and allowing returns for any reasons. You could try to contact Love Honey. They run comps and take ideas all the time

Hi,
You can sell alot of adult items on adultwork.com
They have no real "Morals" like ebay so to speak and have sections such as "Underwear Used". You need to register with the site as offering services and if you want to sell stuff you have to verify your account.
Check it out, Beware not for the feint hearted, there is alot of pictures on there to make your skin crawl. Benefits are its free to register and I think they only take a small % of the sale price.

There's also ebare.co.uk, the adult version of Ebay but I cannot vouch for them: never used them one way or the other.
I am, however, involved in an adult erotica publishing website and we have had issues, off and on, with Paypal. Now and then they get all moralistic on us and then there's a backlash and we can sell our products again.
You might look at having banner ads on established websites where people interested in that sort of thing visit. A lot of this is networking. Obviously depending on the nature of your product, you're either appealing to most people who want a little kink (Ann Summers type) or niche market, people who are far more "into stuff". If you know what I mean.
I have been informed some banks don't like adult business, like x rated films - those with a history in the church like RBS. That said, some mates used to make very specialist man-on-man films and used Barclays who were fine. For alternative online payment systems, PayPoint are open minded.0 -
I really appreciate all that advice, this is more of a fetish style item and I think I'm going to seriously look into some of the sites suggested. I never considered banks objecting! How funny.
Thanks again

Banks can be iffy about erotic businesses. This is mostly because they are a market which is riddled with scams and the banks don't want to risk reputational or financial damage and partly because a lot of them are (in theory at least) heavily regulated and the banks risk penalties if they are seen to be working with merchants who break the rules. I'd be highly surprized if any of the main banks in the UK (or Paypal) would turn down business on moral grounds. As long as your product isn't too extreme I think you'll be fine.0

You will find a lot of companies in the whole chain may have problems depending on exactly how "adult" it is. Banks are one, but also webhosts, designers etc who are concerned about their brand image and its possible association with your products.
You ideally want to find a mainstream supplier that is comfortable dealing with you though as there are several specialist companies but they charge alot more and certainly when it comes to webhosting the service is much lower.0 -
There is the Erotic Trade Association, and the various trade fairs that happen. You also might pop into your local sex shop and have a chat with the owner! It can be a strangely lonely business as you're always aware you can't just "chat" about the day to day issues depending on what those issues were. Although emails marked "Not Safe For Work" take on a new meaning.0

The thought of going into a sex shop to have a chat sounds a great idea. I know of a really friendly one in Brighton. My product is not hardcore or offensive, just caters for a particular corner of the market that is a little specialised. Sort of thing I'd discuss with work colleagues but not my mother!
Thank you for all your help.
