3 absences in six months is not "very little". I think your problem is that your percieve it as very little. Your employer won't.

We've recently had a similar sickness policy put in place and it drives me mad because I think it's so unfair.

I don't see why it can't be done on a case by case basis so that if you think someone may be taking the mick then you say something but otherwise trust that if your employee says they are sick then they really are.

If a hard worker with no other problems has a couple of days off they have to go through a ridiculous rigmarole (and don't get any more holiday pay) all because some people are slackers.

If an employer doesn't apply the same criteria to all employees then they leave themselves open to ET and legal challenges from anyone who is disciplined when other people aren't. In this case I would hope that the OP's arguments will be accepted as valid.

its the bradford factor isn't it that many absenses are measured under. I think its unfair on when you had a broken bone though and sickness, but like my boss said to me as long as its not the Monday and Friday blues each week the hopefully it shouldn't be too much of a problem

This query isn't about Bradford though. The query is about automatically being pulled into a disciplinary after three absences. If it was the Bradford factor they'd be saying "you'll have reached 30 Bradford points so we will have to have a meeting about that".

As said by others they can't just say "we know its you, its ok, never mind". They can decide in the meeting that no further action needs to be taken as my boss recently did with me. However they still have to have the meeting.
