I have been trying to login to a bank where I now have an account but can't get anywhere. There is a notice on the site saying that my browser may not accept the log in details and that I didn't have Javascript. I have fixed the Java issue but can't seem to get the cookie issue right in Control Panel. Can anyone help please?

Which browser are you using? Try Chrome?0

If using Internet Explorer, try Tools, Compatibility View.
Could also clear temporary internet files, cookies, history, etc.0 -
Lokking back at your previous threads you are using firefox?
Are you using the NoScript add-on?

I didn't realise people looked back at earliers posts - bit embarrassing. I am using Firefox and I am not sure about Add-Ons. I'll check that. Also, I do have Chrome and I'll check with that. I tried to log in to MSE after checking something else and their cookie must have got lost as I got a message about becoming a member and "it's a pity you have not got Javascript", which is definitely in order. Thank you all very much. Cookies always seem to be a problem, to me at least!0 -
I'll try to answer your problems in Firefox:
Cookies or how to keep a cookie forever.- Go to the login page for your bank and in the firefox address bar copy the first bit of the URL up to the first "/". Do this by click and drag to highlight and then right click then copy
For example if yoiu are reading this the first bit of the address is forums.moneysavingexpert.com
Nationwide logon is onlinebanking.nationwide.co.uk
Barclays is bank.barclays.co.uk - Select Tools > options> Privacy tab
- Make sure that Accept cookies from sites is ticked You need this.
- Ensure Accept third party cookies is unticked Third party cookies are usually tracking cookies and I have been rejecting these for years without any ill effects.
- I have a high level of security and only remember cookies that I make an exception of, for web sites that i visit regularly. So I select Keep until: I close Firefox You may prefer the default Keep until: they expire
- Now click on Exceptions (opposite Accept cookies from sites)
- In the Address of website Right click and paste or type the address of the bank login page from step 1
- Now click Allow and it will be added to the list of exceptions
- Now Close the exceptions window and OK the options window and the job is done
Assuming you are not using the noscript addon or have it temporarily disabled:- Select Tools > Add-ons then plugins at the left hand side
- In the list it should say something like Java (TM) Platform (some numbers) enabled
Digression in mine it says Java (TM) Platform SE6 U29 6.0.290.11 (disabled) and a warning about it causing problems.
Tools > Add-ons check to see if your plugins are up to date suggests that I update Java
So I've followed the update (and refused the ask toolbar) - The list used to say Java SE 6 U31 disabled. but when I try to enable nothing is happening. I think firefox needs a restart.
- Yup It just needed an OK from me and a restart the list now says Java SE 6 U31 enabled
- Job done
