We have had one for these for a while now and very pleased with it, very good price!

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?
  • I bought this model a year ago and is great after upgrading from another branded sat-nav. The XXL does NOT have an expansion slot for upgrading maps or adding maps. However, we are flying to Thailand next month and we have bought the Thailand maps online from TomTom (using code welcome123b). Anyway, to add maps, you connect your XXL to the computer and use the TomTom 'Home' software. You then 'remove' the Europe maps and it very cleverly stores them on TomTom Home and then basically add the new maps. When we return home, we then connect it back to the computer and remove the Thailand maps and then re-add the Europe maps that are stored for you.

Best to check whether it has a memory expansion slot, if you want to keep updating, or adding extras. Some don't.

No, it only has 2Gb internal memory. Mine came with a free map update but the latest Europe maps took up more that 2GB. I had to choose which segments I wanted. Also, the battery life if very poor.

However, it's a lot nicer to use than the Garmin I had! (even though that one was more expandaible and had a much better battery life)

I would look at laws in other countries before taking any GPS device abroad, you can be jailed in some countries for using them.

France bans speed camera warnings, I'm not sure any other country has a problem with them.

Can you navigate to Longitude/Latitude co-ordinates. Seems like an ideal time to upgrade my satnav, however I have a use for finding places in the countryside on a lane where you're given the co-ordinates rather than a postcode. I know some even top range sat navs don't have this facility, even though my tom tom one (about 4 years old) does have this.

Yes, you can enter destinations by Lat/Lon
I have the XL model, which has the same software and processor - just a smaller screen. Very happy with it, and it's easy to swap maps. No memory slot, but it plugs in to a USB.

Some users of this model have complained that the updated maps don't fit!
Apparently you can use a sub-set of the maps suitable for your journey and later you can change the maps if you need (at no charge)
Because our maps are getting more detailed and therefore bigger, some new maps may not completely fit on your device. In these cases we have divided these maps into detailed Map Zones which you can download individually as you need them.
Each Map Zone covers a sizeable area and while you can only use one Map Zone on your device at a time, you still have access to the whole map. You can change to another Map Zone at any time using TomTom HOME.
