another pension increase for police!

evh22,
I think Paul has summed it up above.
No one is knocking the police or the job they do, and i certainly appreciate on ocassion you must have to deal with some pretty gruesome situations, however that was always going to be part of the job and in a sense is kind of equivelent to a painter complaining about getting paint on his shirt, its part of the job you signed up for.
In repsect of your pension and t&c's, the fact of the matter is that Police Officers are well rewarded for what they do, and to have people on complaining about their final salary pension they will be enjoying at the age of 50, funded by us in the private sector who in many cases have contributed more for longer and will get less, is pretty sickening.
This view that the public sector have of the private sector is unbelievabley off the mark, you seem to think we are all investment bankers who should be funding your wages and pensions. From my expierance of dealing with many in the public sector they are paid well (on comparison from what they would get in the private sector for same job) work far less hours, use sick days as holidays and get handsomely rewarded in their retiremnet for it. (There are obviously others, nurses for one who maybe dont enjoy such perks)
Their is a £3trillion deficit in the public purse and why you think we should continue to fund your pension perks for you whilst feeling sympathy that your contributions have been brought into line (on a % basis) with most of us who want a decent a pension is beyond me.0 -
OP- you are deluded. My husband works in the private sector and is treated like s**t. he is basically a contractor on a permanent contract. Gets no overtime rate, no pension, no sick pay, nowt, diddly, zilch. Where are these better hours and perks? Not here.
He pays 20% of our income into a private pension. He earns less than £30k working average of 50 hours a week and has 3 kids to support. To get what? Less than you? Moaning about your lot. Wake up and smell the coffee. I now find it nothing but totally insulting when public sector employees whine about their lot. The well off moaning that they don't have a little bit more. Oh bless. Some people are really suffering in this country. You have a good income, a good job, and a good pension. Move on and be grateful. if you can't do that, then please shut up and stop getting on my wick.0 -
My friends in the private sector have all enjoyed year on year rises in linewith inflation and enjoy bonuses when they are earned.
I don't beleive this for a minute. Your friends are telling porkies.
The Private sector has had redundancies galore and those still working (incl my OH) haven't had a pay rise in over 4 years.0 -

The mention of 'bonuses' brought to mind a certain part of the private sector. Hence my earlier comment:Paul wrote:That's nice. Shame it doesn't apply to the whole of the private sector. You must have some very special friends.Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries0 -
I agree, but can't see a police officer hanging out with the city boys? In any case, many of their salaries have also been frozen, and bonuses vary each year.0
