Sub-standard Bus Pass

Has this happened to anyone else? -

I got a 60+ Smartcard less than 6 months ago and even though I handled it carefully it has now cracked and split into 3 pieces!

Translink are now demanding that I pay to have it replaced, but I think that is unfair since the material of the card was obviously not fit for purpose.

I've had mine for 7 months and it's good as new. Are you keeping it in a wallet in your back pocket and sitting on it?

What's a wallet? Do pensioners automatically get one of these or do you have to claim? ;)

No, I kept it the same way as I keep my credit cards and they don't disintegrate every 6 months.

Can you tell me how you manage to keep yours intact?

It's in my wallet along with all the rest of my cards.
  • Its only £6. Pay it or stay off the buses. You get free transport while the rest of us have to pay for it and also pay for you.

The overs 60's should get the same money as JSA's keep it all the same.

You may not remember but "DURING THE WAR" you had to walk with no shoes 6 miles in the snow.

Sorry to resurrect this again, but I have another query re bus passes:

How come I have seen quite a few folk setting their whole wallet up on the driver's machine without even showing the pass, when it says in the instructions that you must set the pass on there with the photo side up so the driver can see it? Does it work through a wallet full of other cards?

hi jeffer - the machine on the bus can read the electronic data on the card through the leather wallet - no need to take it out unless you get a fussy driver.

But if you 'buy' a ticket on the train or platform surely you have to take it out because the man takes your pass and puts it through his hand-held machine?
