Scan it all and put in on a disk. Chuck the rest in a suitcase in the attic

  • Cute idea I saw was to make collage, scan it and then transfer the print onto canvas either as wall hanging or transfer as cushion covers in the family room.

I was just going to say the same thing. i ahve doen and am continueing to do with with a lot of momentos I have. Some things take up so much space - i had a banern made for my birthday when I was 12 when my entire upper school signed it!. It was too big too keep, so I photgraphed it and put it on disc and binned the banner.

The other benefits are that you could make a disc that cna be played on a DVD player as a slideshow so granny can watch her memories like a film! Also you can copy the disc and all the fmaily can have a copy - which means no fights over who gets what, and if there is fire or flood you still have copies!

Don't laugh, this one's from a baby catalogue but I think they're great, and am getting one myself so that I can easily display recent pics!

we bought one of those plastic hanging frames for my M-I-L Christmas present a couple of years ago. She and F-I-L moved to a much smaller home and so she had to condense her photo collection as she had tons on display on shelves and walls. She keeps it in her bedroom and changes them around when she gets a new photo she likes.
...it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.

I have just returned from a 2 week language course holiday in Spain. Usually, when I come back from a trip, I have all sorts of things - tickets, concert programmes, leaflets, photos, etc. that I used to keep whole in A4 paper wallets - but they take up so much space!! This time around, I kept a moleskine journal, and when I returned, I stuck the tickets, relevant page of the prgramme, and photos in it at the relevant page. Now I have 2 weeks of mementos in less space that an A5 piece of paper! I am really chuffed with it! I can keep each holiday memory this way, neatly on my bookcase!

I am now going to go back through the paper wallets, and do the same.....

    That's a brilliant idea, I love it!

I'm currently trying to organise all the memories and photos of my Erasmus year spent in Germany. I bought some plain brown photo albums from Paperchase and have been filling them. It's so hard to be ruthless with all the hundreds of photos I took. The albums are going to take up a bit of room, but I'm definitely going to use your idea for future shorter trips. I'm also going to try and take less photos, I'm sure before digital cameras I took less!

    Thanks NemoToad!

Pre-Digital, I took less, but there were some really dodgy ones! I have recently gone through my photos, and got rid of the duplicates, cutting it down from a big file storage box to a box the size of an A4 ream of paper! I gave loads to family and friends as presents - have you seen the photo holder cards you can get? They make gifts that are personal and really appreciated! That way, you don't feel so ruthless! You cut back on clutter AND save money on presents too!!

Now, with the digital, I only take the photos I want! I came back from 2 weeks away, having taken only 5 photos! (The rest of the memories I keep in words!)

If only I could be as organised with the rest of my life!:o
