Curtain advice please

I have been given a lovely thick pair of lined curtains but they are too short, they are also extremely wide (they have a join in the centre), would I be able to turn them round to use the other way or would the join in the middle look silly half way down?
I was wondering if anyone had done this and how difficult it was, I have a sewing machine but not used it on anything very big before.
Thanks in advance

I think they would look a bit odd, sorry

It would probably be hard to get the seams to line up on each curtain- and if you are anything like me, that's the sort of thing that would drive me potty!
Can you use them anywhere else? Failing that- cushion covers??Won Mulberry Bag Jan 09

You need to open the seam, use one section as the top of a curtain.
Then cut the other section in half horizontally, join these pieces side by side.
Finally gather the wider piece (i.e. the side by side joined one) onto the bottom of the other one.
Does that make sense? :rotfl:

Or you could find a similar wieght fabric in a matching or contrasting colour and join it at the bottom.0

Thanks all, think I will just make them smaller and use in the bedroom, with scatter cushions to match.

It depends on the amount of material in them and also where you plan to use them. I've found myself in a similar sitution twice. Both times I took off the header tape, seperated the lining and curtain material and made lined curtains from the salvaged materials (inc re-using the header tape). The first time I got 2 smaller pairs of curtains (for top & bottom of stairs) and a door curtain (this did need to have a join to get the longer length but in 7 years no-one noticed). The second time I made a pair of lined curtains, a throw for the bed and covered the ottoman top to match. The curtains I was given were fairly big to begin with and were of a plain material (so no matching) and I made them into smaller things; but it can be done - and, if you're a re-cycler like me - there's a great sense of satisfaction in re-using stuff
