"clingfilming" your car seats

Hi
Just changed from a hatchback to a saloon and the dog will have to sit in the back seat. Was thinking of buying seat covers but then thought of wrapping the seats like taxi drivers sometimes do
Can anyone tell me where you could get this done, and if you know, how much?
Open to other suggestions as well
Thanks as ever for all replies

Not a very money saving suggestion but for a larger dog we bought a dog trailer and it's by far the best money I've spent in a long long time !! Doubles up as a kennel when we go visiting friends who "don't particularly like dogs" and don't feel bad leaving him in it on warm days if we're out somewhere he can't go (Like Shops etc) as it's well ventilated...0

I would imagine that the taxi drivers do this themselves, using industrial type clingfilm (like is used to wrap around pallets) as opposed to domestic food clingfilm.
If doggy is on the back seat, make sure you purchase a suitable harness, this is a requirement for dogs on rear seats to prevent injury to the dog but also to prevent the dog interfering with the driver or striking the front occupants in the event of a collision or hard braking.
Police DO check this if they see a car with a dog on the seat, I have been stopped on more than one occasion and they have stated they were checking that the dog was appropriately secured. Harnesses cost under £10 and are readily available.
Canine road safety needs to be given the same attention as child safety in the car but this is often neglected.
I cringe when I see passengers carrying dogs on the front seat. Imagine what would happen in the event of a collision, the dog would most likely be crushed by the passenger flying forward, the dogs limbs could cause injury to the passenger and even worse if an airbag goes off.
Sorry to go on, but this is very important, however, is often overlooked.0 -
Thanks for the replies
Trailer isnt an option I'm afraid...no tow bar on the car - thanks for the option though
Yorkie, Harness bought already....went out to get that and the seat cover, but came back with the harness and questions
The seats I've seen in taxis seem to be more like vacuum wrapped rather than clingfilm...looked like a professional job, but could be wrong0 -
Would imagine the plastic coverings are done separately (Back & Seat) leaving a lovely gap for any doggy accidents to seep into the boot. I would stick with a waterproof backed washable blanket type cover that covers the back & seat in one single piece, then you can just chuck it in the wash when it needs it.Truth always poses doubts & questions. in shops that you buy tablecloths (wipe clean ones) you can now buy clear plactic that can be used for tables and bought by the metre. I covered my chairs in the kitchen to keep them clean.0

Shrink Wrap that's used on pallets wouldn't be any good either, it's only slightly thicker than clingfilm.
Ask a taxi driver - the ones they have appeared to have seams on them, so they could be made to measure?0 -

Hi Stevie.
There used to be a company in Townsend street belfast done those covers, dont know if they are still there or not, think they were called cozi cab or something similar.
Best bet ask a taxi driver they do know everything0 -
I was looking to get this done too and asked someone in work where they got theirs done, I never got round to it in the end but I *think* it was this place http://www.autotrimbelfast.co.uk/0
