Moorcroft - got my address from a CRA

Hello all.

I received letters from Moorcroft Group and it says they got my address from a credit reference agency. I have ignored these letters as the debt originally with a certain hali'fix' never existed and they have passed it on to several dirty companies with Moorcroft the latest one.

The thing is, hardly anyone knows of my address so I am confused how they got it. The only people I can think of is my letting agency who would have gone to a CRA when I first took on my flat.

So, my questions are:

1. Who would give this information out?
2. Is it legal to without my knowledge/permission?
3. Has anyone here had the same happening?

Any help/advice/thoughts would be very much appreciated!

Thanks in advance

If your address is with the credit reference agencies then yes they are allowed to inform debt collectors.

Its usually on your credit file from being linked to your old address - eg when you move a bank account from an old address to a new one, or when you apply for credit (or even things like utility bills) at the new address and are asked by them to provide your previous address.

And of course if you are on the electoral roll then then the CRAs have your address through that.

Its quite common for people to be traced through credit reference agencies.

If you're on the electoral roll at your current address, then that address is registered with the CRA's. Nothing you can do about that.

Same thing happened to me, moved into a new place 3 years ago and almost instantly starting getting letters. Then, when I checked my credit file, made the fatal error of registering with my home telephone number. Shortly after the calls started.

Now I don't register my home number with any CRA's. I just give them 01234567890 if they require something in the telephone number field. They are all well known for passing this info on.

    Many thanks for your replies.

I find it odd that this debt company choose mail and all the other dopes that Halifix have tried, phoned.

I wonder if many others here have had recent hassle from this debt company and how they have gone about "handling" them.

    Best way to handle them?
