Usually we go to Hillstown Farm shop and cannot fault the produce, but a new farm shop opened so we thought we would try there for a change.
We went to : Bruces Hill Farm shop, Ross House, Ballymena
I bought several pieces of meat including some pork sausages.
I popped the sausages in the pan..with a little water..as I hate using oil. I could not believe how much fat came out of these 6 average sized sausages. I half filled a mug with the yucky fat. :mad:I am totally put off and shall stick to where I know best in future. The last time I saw this amount of fat was when I had some cheap mince which I was cooking for the dogs. Needless to say I gave the sausages to the dogs as I would NOT eat these.
I realise that sausages have to have a certain amount of fat in them, but I have never seen so much fat before.
The other pieces of meat purchased were fine...nothing special...and I shall continue to support the Hillstown farm shop......

I see in the paper that this Bruces Hill Farm Shop shop is winning prizes for it's meat!. Is this other Farm Shop you mention also entering these competitions?
Maybe you just were unfortunate, I had the Whiskey and Marmale Beef sausages last week from Brucs Hill and they were delicious.0 -

Thanks for taking time off from running your farm shop to join up and post on a three-week old thread, just to tell us how good your sausages are.0 -
I bought some sausages last week in Tesco and was making a casserole in the SC and pre-cooked them exactly the same in a bit of water, just to get some colour in them really before going in the SC, i was amazed the amount of fat came out. And i'd gone out of my way checking the labels to get what i thought sounded like healthy sausages,Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Hopefully that's not a euphemism0 -
I have obviously NOT been back to the farm shop since the yucky fatty sausages. I bought some in Sainsburys..those skinny pork ones, not the larger ones from the counter. (I am not trying to promote this supermarket btw). Anyway, I grilled these ones and there was such a difference I cannot tell you. Yes these was a little fat but in no way like the farm shop ones. The fat that the farm shop gave solidified into a white glup..that would definately make your skin crawl:eek:.
The other meat I bought from the farm was ok......nothing outstanding...nothing that would make me drive there especially...as I have done to other farm shops.
I wish I had kept the fat..and taken it back to show them. But the petrol would have cost me more to have made the trip...
yuck yuck yuck........:beer:0 -
AND THE FAT......YUCK...NEVER...

Did you complain to the shop? Perhaps you should have done that first before posting on here.
What you don't like might be spot on for someone else.0
