Cap One and Santander asking for Bank Statements can they do this?

Hi
Very long time lurker on these boards. Very nice to hear im not the only one in debt.

I am up to date with all my bills except I am now one month behind with 2 credit cards Santander and Capital One. Long story but have had a difficult couple of years losing both my parents within 5 months, have really taken my eye of the ball, the interest rates have crept up to a whopping Cap One 34.9 and Sant just received a letter today hiking that to 34.0:eek:.
I have contacted them today and they are happy to arrange a payment plan and freeze the interest and charges as long as I send a income and expenditure form wage slip and bank statements. Dont mind the wage slip inc/exp but am a little worried about the bank statements as this is a joint account and these debts do not belong to my husband and all his commitments are up to date. He is aware of my situation but cannot assist me at this time as he as lost all his overtime. I dont want to not comply with them but they said the accounts would continue to incur charges if I did not comply, would they accept a bank statement with all my husbands info scrubbed out Do hope someone can advise. Thanks

An income/expenditure statement is fair but I agree with you about the wage slip and bank statement.

This is where it is useful to involve a third party like CAB, CCCS or Payplan, as their Financial Statements are accepted without 'proof'.

You could try just sending them what you feel comfortable with, but I suspect while you're on your own they are going to mess you about for a long time before they freeze interest and charges.
  • Thanks for your reply. I am happy to send all but dont want to include hubbys info.

Will contact one of those mentioned tommorrow for further advice.

    :)Thanks again
