MANCHESTER city centre, free or cheap car parks?

I am watching a show at MEN arena this Thursday and will be staying in a hotel on Tib Street.

I'll be arriving in Manchester at about 7pm and need somewhere to park until lunch time on Friday.

Does anyone know of anywhere cheap, or - even better - free?

Thanks.

Rather than start a new thread I also looking

Haven't been for a few years but normal park next to MEN arena the big multi story car park. We plan to go shopping and have a look around possible. Daughter is disabled but can walk a bit. Last time we went it was too much for her to walk into city centre and back with out a lot of rest so to avoid this we taking a wheelchair which we plan to get.

Can anyone recommend a reasonable safe car park in city centre or is that multi story car park near station/arena best place
  • Free:
    Greengate area off Trinity Way.
Road names in Google or Sat Nav: Greengate, Gravel Lane, Bleckfriars Road
Some single yellow lines in the area, and on street parking white dotted line rectangles.

    Cheap:
    Greengate area off Trinity Way.
Road names in Google or Sat Nav: Greengate, Gravel Lane, Bleckfriars Road
ECP (Euro Car Park) 2 x unmanned, need change or pay by mobile
    Total Car Park

the one i use is on the corner of New Bridge St and Greengate, opposite the end of Gravel Lane. it is manned most of day until 9, and this is extended for Arena events.

    hope this helps
  • M.E.N. Arena car par is about £3 for most of the day BUT for events it virtually doubles !

Out of town ? with bus, tram and rail fares this is not a viable option, and that's before considering the time factor of an evening, i.e. frequency of transport services.

There's a cheap car park on Rochdale road (was £2 per day last time I went past), or the old Boddington's brewery which is around £3 per day but they try to charge you more if they think you're going to the MEN.

According to NCP car park at Arena is £15 all day with or without events

    http://www.ncp.co.uk/car-park?cpid=901002&name=Arena

    1 hour: £2.90
    1 to 24 hours: £15.00
    Earlybird: £4.10
    Event rates from: £15.00

I checked few other car parks all seem rather pricey to me. I need disabled space by the way for daughter

This is quite a comprehensive list/map of Manchester car parks:

It also tells you the min charge for most of them.

Not from my experience - I parked here one afternoon for an hour while I got something to eat, had to pay nearly £10 for parking!

I usually use Boddingtons car park, just over the road from the MEN where the brewery used to be. £3 all day and staff on site so it's faily secure.

rochdale road (by the northern quarter/co-op tower-5 minute walk to the MEN) or in Salford, just past the bridges by the big holiday inn.

    Used to live there!

but the prices are around 3-5 per day, regardless of events...just depending on the day ....tends to be more 4-5 during the week and 3 quid at weekends. HTH x

  • Parking for Commuters : TWO of the NCPs in the Centre of Manchester near Victoria and the Arena are now doing early bird deals -- opposite Premier Inn is £2.50 -- Church St is £3.95 .... both these Car Parks say arrive before 8.30am and leave within 12 hours to get the early bird price - if you stay longer than 12 hours then you may be charged a lot more than £2.50 (never risked it myself and, besides, 12 hours parking for work reasons is more than enough !) -- not sure if NCP Arena does an Early bird deal.
